- Dip a cotton pad in a cup of water overnight. Strain this in the morning and add 1 cup of plain water to this. Splash the eyes with this water or wash them with the help of an eyecup.
- Splash the eyes with a weak and very liter tea solution, thoroughly strained and cooled for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Limit your time looking at computer, tablet, and phone screens if possible.
Make sure that your eyes are level with the screen. Looking up or down at a computer screen for long periods of time can put extra strain on your eyes. Position your computer and yourself so that you are looking straight at the screen.
Follow the 20-20-20 rule when you are working on a computer. 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. You can help yourself remember to take your breaks by setting alarms on your phone.
Winter Eye Care Tips
Many times, we do not realize that a sudden drop in the outside temperature especially during winters can pose a threat to our eyes. Most of us think that eye care is not necessary during the cold and it should only be considered during the summer and monsoon season. However it is to be noted that the sun's influence remains throughout the year and winter is no different.
The cold wind and dry air can cause irritation to the eyes especially while you are outdoors.
Indoor heaters when used tend to eliminate the moisture from the air which can easily dry out eyes and cause irritation. It is recommended to use a humidifier in your room when the humidity factor is considerably low. This would help moisten your dry eyes especially when they are exposed to warm air.
Those who wear contact lens should try to limit outdoor exposure and also use artificial tears more frequently. It is recommended to try out soft contact lenses as they offer comfort and act like sponges.
Try using a good eye care cream which can offer protection to the region around your eyes during winters. This cream can be applied during the day and even throughout the night.
